Major/Minor: Sociology/Latino Studies Brief Biography:Born in in Brooklyn, NY in 1976- the one of six children born to parents of Puerto Rican decent. I attended public schools in NYC, until my Dartmouth College education from 1994 to 1998. Upon graduating, I worked at the NY Immigration Coalition for nearly a year, followed by eight years as an insurance broker at Marsh USA, Inc. Currently, I am the Risk Manager for the New York Times Company, as well as the Treasurer of the NYTCO Latino Heritage Network employee affinity group, VOCES. I am a lifelong Brooklyn resident, an avid traveler, and movie buff. Achievements: -Boys' & Girls HS Valedictoria, 1994 -Larry Sills Scholarship Award winner, 1994. Larry Sills is a Dartmouth Alum that awarded scholarships to NYC public school students attending Dartmouth College -Founding member of LUL Psi Chapter at Dartmouth College -Darmouth College Graduate, 1998 -Vice President at Marsh USA, Inc., Casualty Department, 2004 -The New York Times Company Risk Manager, 2007 What are you doing now? The Risk Manager for the New York Times Company. A risk manager is responsible for identifying a company's risk areas and ensuring that the appropriate insurance coverage is in place to address any potential losses. Why did you pledge? While a student, myself and other members of the Latino communicty acknowledged that Dartmouth was lacking additional resources and options for the Latino community to produce and deliver educational programming and activities to the Dartmouth community. At the time, only La Alianza Latina existed and was the sole Latino oriented group that was available to students. The introduction of a new Latino organization on campus would not only support La Alianza's efforts, but also offer young men an option to consider if interested in joining a fraternal organization. Favorite moment as a Hermano: Not really an Hermano moment- more of a Caballero memor: under the George Washington Bridge in NY- the other 3 guys know what we went through before we became Hermanos. As an Hermano- putting together the first Noche Dorada at Dartmouth. Advice to interested men: LUL is more than a fraternity- it offers a wide array of networking opportunities and unlimited support and assistance from fellow Hermanos. |
