Major/Minor: Comparative Literature between Spanish and Portuguese Literatures; Minor in History with a focus in Decolonization and Neo-colonialism Brief Biography: I am Brazilian-American with family in Brazil and Spain. I was born and raised in New York City (Jackson Heights, Queens) and attended Stuyvesant High School. At Dartmouth, I was also involved in La Alianza Latina and SAPA. I served as the Inclusivity Intern for ORL, a member of the Steering Committee for Deep Community (Tucker Foundation) and a participant in Diversity Peer Program. I also was a founding member of the InterCommunity Council. My senior year, I was the Vice President for Diversity Affairs for the Student Assembly as well as a member of Casque and Gauntlet Senior Society. After Dartmouth, I have been fortunate to have experiences in finance, the hospitality industry, international non-profit management, education, and healthcare. Most recently, after completing a pre-medical post-baccalaureate program at Harvard University Extension School, working as a Mental Health Specialist, and completing some clinical research work, I am beginning medical school in the fall. Achievements: - Telluride Scholar (Telluride Association) 2002 - Hermano of the Year 2004 - Award for Undergraduate Excellence 2004 from the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations - Member of Casque and Gauntlet Senior Society What are you doing now? Medical Student at the Boston University School of Medicine, Class of 2015. Why did you pledge? La Unidad Latina presented the opportunity to learn about myself and my community while providing an outlet to serve in the company of other similarly dedicated men. I saw in LUL the opportunity to form relationships that went beyond friendship to embody true brotherhood. I saw in that brotherhood the promise of life-long camaraderie and a unique vehicle to serve the Latino community. Favorite moment as a Hermano: Most notably, the moment of immense pride when I watched my neophyte join La Hermandad. Most recently, an Hermano Reunion planned by Hermano Rafael Mejia where I caught up with the friends with whom I truly shared my Dartmouth experience. Advice to interested men: Pursue the things that move you. If you are looking for a fraternal experience that leaves you with men who are your family, leadership and organizational skills to carry into your career, and an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment from your undergraduate experience -- consider La Unidad Latina. |
